Paris Grand Slam contest statistics
The season-opening Paris Grand Slam saw the first application of
the finalised IJF rules for the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Qualification
Period.
A set
of new rules were tested from last year’s Paris Grand Slam through to
the Junior World Championships and following a lengthy review changes
were made for the Rio cycle. [Click here to view the rules fo the Rio cycle.]
In Paris, the Bercy crowd witnessd 276 ippons (54.87%) in 503
contests. Technical scores also included 56 waza-ari (11.13%) and 53
yuko (10.54%).
67 shidos (13.32%) were handed out, 48 hansoku-make for four shidos
(9.54%), two hansoku-make for a leg grab (0.40%) and one direct
hansoku-make (0.20%).
10 contests (1.99%) required golden score.
IJF Referee Director Bernd Achilles said: “We have to improve the
equability of application especially for negative Judo. Balance point
must be to recognising when a player is really negative against our
rules, it means in terms of False attack, Kumi-Kata and Non-Combativity.
“We expect that at the next tournaments the preparation of players
will be better and we have to educate the referees exhaustively before
the tournaments.”
